[NIH Philharmonia – Dr. Nancia D'Alimonte, Music Director The NIH Philharmonia (formerly NIH Chamber Orchestra) is an all-volunteer organization founded for the purpose of bringing together the dedicated musical talent of NIH researchers, federal workers, and the surrounding community. The orchestra is affiliated with the NIH Recreation and Welfare Organization.
Over the past few decades, there have been several orchestras at the National Institutes of Health. NIH Philharmonia was established in January 2005 under the musical direction of Dr. Nancia D'Alimonte with a goal to play music originally written for small orchestra and string ensemble. Since the first concert in March of 2005 with only 28 members, the NIH Philharmonia now has a healthy roster of 74 members. Its goal is now to perform a wide array of repertoire from the orchestra canon, to delight and challenge both its audience and the orchestra members themselves.]
